Moving is a stressful time, but it doesn’t have to be! US Moving Services has some moving tips to help you get started on your move. These tips will help your move go smoothly and make sure you as stress-free as possible on moving day. Whether you’re moving by yourself or hiring us to help you, these moving tips will surely help you!
Create a Moving Inventory
By creating a moving inventory, you can keep track of all your possessions. You’ll want to make sure to state the type and number of individual items within a room. Then add a description. While you are creating a moving inventory, you can also use to color coordinate your boxes. If you’re using pink tape for your kitchen, make sure to note that in the inventory. Then, when you move in, you’ll be able to find objects with ease.
Label your Boxes
Labelling your boxes will save you a lot of time. You can quickly sort through the boxes and put them in the correct rooms. You can label using color duct tape, markers, or stickers. Using colors will help you quickly see where each box goes. You should also label the outside of the box with what is generally in each box. (i.e. towels, sheets, trophies, etc.)
Packing at the last minute is never a good idea. You’ll pack rushed and you may be packing things incorrectly and more likely to have broken items. If you aren’t a fan of packing, you can hire US Moving Services to help you pack.
Work on One Room at a Time
Packing up your whole house can be overwhelming. It’s a good idea to go room by room, saving the most frequented rooms last. This will also help you with labeling your boxes. When you work on one room at a time, the task of moving out becomes less intimidating.
Double Check Everything
Before locking up and heading to your new home, be sure to double and triple check every room, closet, drawer, nook and cranny to make sure that nothing was left behind. You don’t want to make it all the way to your new home and realize that you forgot something.
Condense your Stuff
Over the years, you probably have collected a lot of stuff. Most of the stuff you probably don’t even use and probably forgot that you had it. Also, when you hire a moving company, their rates are based on how much stuff you have. So, if you have a lot of stuff – it can get expensive. So, it’s a good idea to get of stuff when you start packing.
Pack an Overnight Bag
Before you completely back up your home, you should create an overnight bag. This should include pajamas, clothes for the next day, medicines, and anything else you’ll need immediately. This will save you time from going through boxes trying to find what you need.
Keep Valuable Items with you
You should also keep valuable items with your or at least in the car that you’re driving. These items include medical documents, passports, other important documents, and valuable items like jewelry. This way you know they won’t get lost if they stay with your (or at least near you).
Use Proper Packing Materials
Although you save money with getting free boxes, you should invest in new ones as well. You want your boxes to protect your items, so they shouldn’t have any major holes, rips or tears. Also make sure that you use the right packing materials on the right object. For example, you shouldn’t use shrink wrap directly on wood furniture because the moisture can build up. You should first wrap it in a packing blanket, and then in shrink wrap. You can also hire us to do it for you so you don’t have to worry about your items getting damaged.
